The Boys & Girls Club of McAllen served more than 11,779 youth is 2006, touching more than 15, 000 youth with outreach activities.

Four new sites opened in September 2006 in local schools touching youth that do not normally access services in clubhouses. The focus of these units is low income, at risk youth. The schools are Brown Middle School, Quest Academy, STC Technology Center with an initiative for 9th graders and Zavala Elementary. Together these new charters form the McAllen Youth First Alliance and serves more than 550 at risk youth in school to date.

The newest BGCM Clubhouse is The Glen E. & Rita K. Roney Center which opened December 2004 and served 3,274 its first full year of service.

Our Youth are primarily Hispanic (approx. 95%) from low-income families, 40% of which are single-parent homes.

We offer comprehensive after-school and weekend programs in youth development and leadership skills building such as:
-Education & Career Development
-Health & Life Skills
-The Arts
-Character & Leadership Development
-Sports, Fitness & Recreation
-Specialized Programs for Gang Prevention: Targeted Outreached One such programs is the Summer Parks Program in which 210 new youth participated in prevention activities at city parks.

-The Department of Justice states that juvenile crime occurs during the after-school hours, between 4pm.-8pm. These are BGCM peak hours of operation.

-While our membership remains $5.00 annually so that all children may have club access regardless of social economic status, there is a charge for special programs, such as camps and sports.

-The Board of Directors raises over 42% of our budget locally thought individual and corporate donations as well as fun raising events. We receive City of McAllen support and we are United way Organization.

-It costs $144 per youth annually to operate BGCM, while the BGCA national average per youth annually is $260. Youth incarceration exceeds $40,000 annually. BGCM is a tremendous value!
